How to Return to Work After Having a Baby

So you’ve had a baby and now it’s time to head back to work. Let’s be honest, it sucks. You’re most likely sleep deprived, stressed, and anxious about leaving your little one. Here is my suggestions to making a smooth transition back to work.

BABY1. If you have someone to help, work out the feeding schedule with them. This will allow for you both to get a long stretch of sleep to best rest for the upcoming day. My hubby typically does the last night feeding, which normally happens between 8 – 10 pm. This means I get to bed around 8 pm and then will take the next feeding, which for our little one is around 3 am. This way we both get a good 6 hour period of sleeping. It is also important to consider who can function better with less sleep.

2. Getting out the door, getting ready, and getting to the sitter then to work all takes extra time and adds stress. This means prepping as much as possible the night before it key! I’ve switched to showering at night and laying out my clothes. Let’s be honest, getting dressed is still tough. Can you say #postpartumbodprobs?

3. On maternity leave you spend day and night with your little one, and about to embark on 8 hour stretches without them. This is a big difference, plus that means someone else is watching them. To cut down on the anxiety, you will want to find someone you completely trust and feel comfortable taking care of your baby. It’s also a plus if your sitter sends pictures and updates while you’re at work.

4. My other suggestion is to stretch out your leave. I’m lucky to have banked paid time off. I will be working for the next 6 weeks at a part-time status. Personally, this is helping with getting the little one on a new schedule. During leave, the world revolves around the little one, and now it’s shifting to the clock and coordinating schedules of everyone else. I also think this is a great way to transition a sitter into the addition of another child.

How much time did you take off/ plan to take off for your baby? Any suggestions you have?

DO IT! Why the heck not? It’s a great community and it’s a lot of fun… work, but it’s fun work.

I love “A Dog Purpose”. It is a great read for dog lovers. Make sure you have the tissues!

7. If you could relocate with your family, where would it be?

5 Things to Remember as a New Mom

I’ve been a Mom for 2 weeks! That seems nutty. I’ve learned so much in these past two weeks and I’m sure I’m in for more lessons as we go.

1.  Always have a burp rag! I’m always cleaning something up – pee, poop, spit, vomit…. always have a rag close. The second you don’t have the rag is the second all hell breaks loose! Plus, you can get s
uper cute burp rags.

2.   Breastfeeding is hard work. Luckily my husband convinced me to take a Breastfeeding Class at the hospital. BEST DECISION EVER. The class gave me the knowledge and an opportunity to ask questions and I gained the confidence at the hospital with the nurses assistance. The little one and I struggle sometimes, but I remind myself, “we’re both new to this give it time”.

3.   You will be peed on – A LOT. My little one has great aim for everything except a diaper. Once he’s free the stream starts coming. Always be prepared and be fast.

4. Sleep is overrated. This little guy gives me about 3 to 4 hours in between feedings at night. I get tired, for sure, but he’s worth it. Plus, you know what some of my best friends say, “you can sleep when you’re dead” and I believe them. (or sleep when he’s napping :-P)

5.   Treasure each moment. Before a blink of an eye, I’m sure he’ll be off to college, getting married, and having his own little one. This means living in the moment each and every day. I’ve already been peed on too many times to count, but each time I giggle and enjoy that moment.

I remind myself of these 5 things when I can barely keep my eyes open, or when my little one won’t settle down. These are the moments I’ll miss, so treasure them now.

#BumpDay 2015

I’ve been on a baby post kick especially since this little bugger is now 4 days over due! Even after I give very good reasons to enter the world!

I know, I know…. Babies come on their Birthday and it will be any day now!

So apparently it’s #BumpDay! It is a day to bring awareness to healthy pregnancy around the world. I might as well share some bump-a-licious photos.

*ignore the poor quality iPhone photos – they’re pretty phone-y 😉 hehe

This was my first “bump” photo! This was about the time I stopped feeling like I drank a whole 30 rack of beer and ate 10 cheese burgers. I remember thinking, “I’m actually having a baby and not the fat chick anymore.”

Bump 2 - YDPP

Well – I’ve already taken 1, so let the fun begin!

Bump 5 - YDPP

A little fun bump photo with my pups!

Bump 3 - YDPPThis was right before my trip home to Maryland for a beautiful baby shower hosted by my Mom and Sister.

Bump 6 - YDPP

These are hopefully some of my last photos!

Bump 7 - YDPP

I’m pretty over this bump, little guy and would MUCH rather be sharing picture of you! Let’s get things moving! Here’s to supporting healthier pregnancies around the world and meeting Baby Wickham any day now and until then, I’ll be listening to my “Let’s Move It Baby Playlist!”

Go ahead and share some of your bump photos and tag them #bumpday!

Check out the nursery decorations I made! We have a sweet mobile and easy wall art.

3 Days Over Due and I’m headed to….

You thought I might be going to the hospital? NOPE. I’m 3 days over due, and I’m headed to work. I decided to not waste any “vacation time” (as hubby says) and will work until the little guys debut.JulyBabyWickhamCal

I really shouldn’t complain, considering he’s been such a good guy, minus the heart burn. PTL for Tums!

Considering the 5 Reasons to Enter the World didn’t work, I’m trying something new. I’ve created a special playlist. What’s on my playlist? Just a few songs that may help move things along. I’ve listed highlights below:

1. Baby – Justin Bieber

2. Hey Baby – No Doubt

3. Mama Said – Dusty Springfield

4. Baby, I Love Your Way – Big Mountain

5. I’m Coming Out – Diana Ross

6. Can’t Get Enough of You Baby – Smash Mouth

7. Tell Me Baby – Red Hot Chili Pepers

8. Haven’t Met You Yet – Michael Bublé

9. Come on Over Baby – Christina Aguilera

10. Ice Ice Baby – Vanilla Ice

11. Baby Got Back – Sir Mix-A-Lot

12. Sweet Child of Mine – Guns N’ Roses

13. Born This Way – Lady Gaga

14. Always Be My Baby – Mariah Carey

15. I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing – Aerosmith

Get the whole playlist on Spotify! This could be fun at a baby shower or coaxing a baby into the world – either way.

Any songs you would add?

Help me out by listening! Have you seen the nursery mobile or wall art?

5 Reasons to Join the World!

Our life is about to change completely. 9 months ago the Hubby and I received the best news. This was back in November 2014…

I’m anxious and excited but more than anything ready to meet our little guy. I really should be grateful and enjoy these last few days, but I’m so ready for the next step and so over being prego. Plus, it’s summer time and I could really go for a Shandy!

I decided I could give this little guy a 5 reasons to come out!

1. Your Mom and Dad are WICKED cool – I may be a little bias.Your dad cannot contain his excitement. Check out that smile from the first time we saw you! This has not left his face.

2. It’s July and Red, White, and Blue are Totally In – This kind of circles back to #1 because as you can see, we’re wicked cool. We love Red, White, and Blue and can’t wait for deck you in all things USA! You should see what we’ve packed in your hospital bag, you’ll love it! I’ll share the baby bag and outfit later. Just a teaser, it’s a customized onesie from a dear friend 😀

But let’s be real, you’ll be wearing RWB year round!

3. Your Brothers are Waiting – Radar and Stanley started howling “we’re the 3 best friends that anyone could have.” Plus they’d really like to start playing with your toys!

4. So Much Room for Activities – It’s got to be getting tight in there! I promise to swaddle you and love on you when you’re fussy. No need to say in that cramped little space any more than you have to. Plus, eventually you’ll be evicted, so why don’t you just come on out!

IMG_9572 (1)

5. Your Family– Com’mon little guy not only do I want to meet you, but these people do too! Your Grandma and Grandpa in Maryland have been packed for weeks and I get daily text checking on you.

If you’re very close to delivering, this website is a lot of fun to send to friends…

Well, if I were you, I’d be banging on the doors to get here! There is so much fun, learning, and loving to be had. Hope to see you soon! Check back to see if I packed the proper hospital bag or sneak over to see details from the nursery like the mobile or wall art.

Any advice to get through these last few moments of being baby free? I think we’ll head to the movies tonight and soak up the last few kid-free moments.

How to Frame It!

My husband can be pretty creative. It’s nice to bounce ideas off of him. Plus he’s wicked supportive of my crazy projects and typically jumps in knee deep with me. I brought home a pack of scrapbook paper from Michael’s with no real idea in mind, but I knew these pages would spark an idea.

My first thought was to use these pages as mats for photos or other art, but Hubby said, “let’s just frame the ones we like.” Hmm…. not a bad idea! So we took out all of our favorites and then went through and picked the very best ones. The floor was COVERED. See – he’s a genius.

Frames are from Michaels (who’s surprised?) These are from the Studio Decor line. Obviously purchased on sale or with coupon!

ScrapBookPaperArt-12x12Ah – Just love it!

Have you done this? Are you looking at the cute paper mobile? If so – swing over here to see more details on that! Check back to see what’s on the other walls of this nursery. Decorating your nursery doesn’t have to cost a ton and can be really fun!

Simple DIY Nursery Mobile

I have to give credit where credit is due and the ladies over at Merely Mothers NAILED IT with the tutorial on how to build a paper mobile! I suggest taking a look at it. I also noticed they are offering kits at their Etsy store, again, genius!

I fell in love with her mobile as soon as I spotted it on pinterest and knew I had to make it. I was lucky enough to hit Michael’s on a day when their paper was on sale – SCORE! I then used a coupon to purchase the circle punch (2 1/2 inch). I went bigger than Merely Mothers because, well to be honest, I’m lazy and didn’t want to do as many. 😛

I didn’t use a standard pack of colors as she did, so I bought three different packs from Michaels. I used the packs of paper linked here. As I said, they were on sale at the time, so no biggie!LOTSofCircles

Then I thread these little circles and put them on the rings! This took longer than I was expecting so I skipped covering the rings and went right to the room to hang up!

Love it! Makes me smile each time. Love how it fills this little space too. Have you completed a project like this? I’d love to see – share a link or comment below!

I’ll also be sharing the other portions of the nursery, so check back soon! Click here to see easy and cheap wall art!
