If there was ever a time you were thinking I was crazy, I’m about to confirm that thought.

IMG_3140

Ben and I grew our own flowers for our wedding.

IMG_3144

Yup, that happened. When you marry into a farming family why the heck not?! Plus, it makes for a good story!

IMG_1777

The biggest advice for growing your own flowers is to have a back up plan! Due to the weather, we did get the seeds in a little late. We had a lot of our sunflowers pop, but not all. This meant we needed to supplement our crop with others. Luckily, Ben had a few connections at a farmers market.

I topped off this crazy dream with arranging the bouquets ourselves. What do you think about that? Would you consider this or did it yourself? What was the craziest thing you did for your wedding?

To Travel and Beyond

We were married in Geneva, New York, which meant that a lot of our college friends (from North Carolina) and my family (Maryland and Virginia) were coming from out of town. Thanks to my mom, she encouraged me to create hotel bags for our guest.

These bags included a small water bottle, Advil, snacks, directions to the venue, door hanger, and invitation to the Welcome Party! Instead of having a traditional rehearsal dinner, we opted for a Welcome Party. We invited all out of town guest and close friends to celebrate the night before. I know we enjoyed the welcome party and I think the out of town guest enjoyed the party.Wedding Welcome Party - Hotel BagI loved the door hangers! I loved seeing these hanging on the doors when I went to bed that night.Wedding Hotel Door Hanger

At the time, I didn’t know I’d be blogging about this, so I’m lacking in the picture game. I hope to see you next Wednesday!

Wedding Wednesday – Print at Home Invitations

It’s been a week since our last Wedding Wednesday already?¬†This week is flying by and it makes me a little sad, as this is my last week on full time maternity¬†leave. Next week I start back at work for 6 weeks part-time.¬†Check back and I’ll be sharing my maternity leave experience.

To Travel and Beyond

Hopefully you know the drill,¬†each Wednesday, I link up with¬†Macy from¬†To Travel and Beyond¬†and Meg from¬†Borrowed Heaven¬†for Wedding Wednesday to¬†share small details from our big day each Wednesday. If you’re new, please check out our¬†pint glass favors,¬†non-traditional dessert,¬†special anniversary tradition,¬†innovative guest book, and our¬†chalk board program! What are you waiting for? This week I’ll be sharing our invitations! My hubby thought it would be a good idea to create and print our own!IMG_1665

This was a lot more work than I was expecting. Ben designed our invitation, RSVP, and accommodations card. He did an amazing job. I love, love, love them. It even inspired us to have a two seater bike at the wedding.

1172372_10151546624778204_1094358491_o

This took awhile to get printed because we printed at home. It took awhile to print the first side and then second side (correctly). We invited over 200 people, so I spent a lot of time near the printer.¬†So the big question: Would I print them again? Hmm…

IMG_1678

I don’t think I’d do it again. Between the cost of paper, ink, and the time it took to get these done, I’d suggest getting yours ordered. This would save stress and the hassle. Have you printed your own invitations? Did you have the same experience?

Wedding Wednesday No Program – No Problem

Is it Wednesday again? I’m really enjoying Wedding Wednesday. I love being able to share this special day again.

DSC_0853

In case you’re new, what is Wedding Wednesday? Each Wednesday, I link up with¬†Macy from¬†To Travel and Beyond¬†and Meg from¬†Borrowed Heaven¬†for Wedding Wednesday to¬†share small details from our big day each Wednesday. I’ve already shared our guest favors, cookie bar, anniversary tradition, and guest book, so be sure to view these post too!

To Travel and Beyond

So let’s get started ūüôā While planning our wedding, we¬†were¬†very cautious of the budget and let me say, the budget was pretty tight. We both agreed, we didn’t want to cut anyone from the guess list or the open bar ūüôā We saved money in a few ways, but one in particular was using chalkboards for our programs. I did my research and by research I mean stalked Pinterest. ¬†I actually pinned all wedding inspiration to a secret board. I used a secret board so it could be a day of surprises for my guest. (I love secret boards – they are so convenient¬†when planning for an event or gift!)

Here’s my pin-spiration:

Pin-Aspiration from Eco-Love

Pin-spiration from Eco-Love

Doesn’t seem to hard, right? Plus, Ben already had a huge chalkboard I could use for the event, which helped us save more! I measured my space and mapped it all out. I used¬†chalk markers. Chalk markers are a gift from God! You can erase so easily! I kept q-tips and a wet rag near. I printed the fonts I liked from Microsoft Word and copied them to tracing paper. I think it turned out great! Check out the project below.

I also included a few small sandwich boards. The first was a welcome sign – this let me know they were in the right spot. One of my best friends did this project (Thanks Bay!) The other board gave a timeline for guess and was completed by my Mother-In-Law (Thanks Mel!)

IMG_0440

If you’re thinking about this – you can totally do it! Plus, it was a fun place for your guest to take pictures. I wish there was a picture of the entrance the day of, but¬†looks like it was overlooked ūüė¶

To make the chalk board just grab some plywood and chalkboard paint. They even have chalk board paint in different colors! Imagine, that would be so fun!

Have you completed a similar project? Let me know! I’d love to hear about it ūüôā

Wedding Wednesday – 2 WHOLE Years!

It’s Wedding Wednesday! If you haven’t followed along, you’re missing out! You’ve already missed¬†our favors, guest book, and dessert. Go ahead, click on over there…. I’ll wait….

Wedding-YDPP

So here’s the low down, each Wednesday I link up with Macy from¬†To Travel and Beyond¬†and Meg from¬†Borrowed Heaven¬†to share details from the VERY BEST DAY… okay, I’m a little biased, but it was a pretty sweet party and I think our guest would agree!

To Travel and Beyond

When we arrived at the venue, I grabbed the photographer, and had him capture the moment below. We (as in me) decided to start a tradition, each year we would return to the venue and take a photo.

Wedding-YDPP

We held the ceremony and the reception at the¬†Cracker Factory¬†in Geneva, NY. Love this place and all of it’s charm!

DSC_0564So here we go… It started with our 1st anniversary. Look at these cuties…

Year1-YDPP

It was that time again, we celebrated our 2nd Wedding Anniversary on the 17th! So we headed to the Cracker Factory and took our obligatory photo. However, this year we have an additional guest! Mr. Andrew Lee!

I think it’s pretty sweet, Ben on the other hand gets a little fussy with me ūüėČ I can’t wait to look back in 20 years how we’ve changed.

I’m at it again – Wedding Wednesday!¬†I’ve linked up with Macy from¬†To Travel and Beyond¬†and Meg from¬†Borrowed Heaven¬†for Wedding Wednesday! Which means¬†I’m going to start sharing small details from our big day each Wednesday. Be sure to check out my Dessert and Guestbook – you’ll LOVE them!

To Travel and Beyond

One thing that was very important to us was that you felt, “this is SO Ben and Mandie” with¬†every detail.¬†After some research and a billion ideas for favors, we landed on Pint Glasses!

DSC_0576 (1)

I love them! But you know what I love more? Getting text and snap chats from friends and family letting me know they’re using them! We used¬†discount mugs¬†and order them all on line. Since we provided the glasses it cut our the rental cost.

DSC_0568

Plus, how fun is it to have personalized glasses at your house?

Whatcha think? What is your favorite favor from a wedding, or what did you give your guest? I can’t wait to hear from you.

Wedding Wednesday – Guest Book

We’re just about to our 2 year anniversary,¬†so of course I’m thinking and reliving every moment of our wedding! I’ve decided to link up with Macy from¬†To Travel and Beyond¬†and Meg from¬†Borrowed Heaven¬†for Wedding Wednesday!

To Travel and Beyond

What does this mean? Each Wednesday I’ll be sharing one detail from our big day! Be sure to check back and see how we celebrated love!

The guestbook from a wedding can remind you of the day, guest, jokes, and much, much more. I wanted more than just a book that would sit on a shelf and only be looked at once a year. This was an idea that came from the Hubby (he’s pretty creative)! Insteadof a traditional book we used¬†Adirondack Chairs!

We bought two chairs from a local mennonite family. The craftsmanship of these chairs is unbeatable. The chairs even fold for easy winter storage Рwhat an added bonus?!

IMG_1766

The chairs were set up near the entrance with multiple different paint pens. Guest could choose the color and which chair to sign. We considered having a “His” and “Her” chair, but decided against this.

IMG_1767 (1)

I put a coat of polyurethane on these baby’s and they are ready for some outdoor attention.

CHAIR

Ben and I enjoy these babies while sitting around our fire pit and each time we’re outside during the summer months. To prolong their life, we store the guest book in the barn for the snowy months.

IMG_9702

Did you have a creative or non traditional guestbook? Let me know – I’d love to see other ideas!
