Squash Minions + GIVEAWAY

Excited to share my next fall craft! Do you love minions? They’re all the craze right now. Here is how you can make your own with squash.

You will need squash, black pipe cleaners, sewing pins, outside lid of mason jar, blue paint, and large wiggle eyes (optional – can paint eyes).

Make Your Own Minion

  1. Visit your local pumpkin patch and locate the squash.

IMG_3223

2. Get minion snapped squash. Butternut squash is perfect for this!

IMG_3224

3. Minion-ize your squash. I painted pants on, used the Mason Jar lid for their goggles, wiggly eyes for inside the goggles (or paint), ad hair with pipe cleaners. I suggest using paint rather than the paint pens (see middle Minion). Paint has better coverage on the waxy surface of the squash.

Easy DIY Pumpkin Caterpillar

Like I said in my home decor post, my house is getting Pumpkin ERRAYTHANG! I’m excited to share this easy to make Fall Craft, Pumpkin Caterpillar.

PumpkinCaterpillerPinterest

Step 1: Get Pumpkins! I decided to use Ironsides. They’re simple to paint and will help give the caterpillar the classic round shape. These pumpkins are from the Pick’n Patch in Stanley, NY.

IMG_3199

Step 2: Pick the very best pumpkins. I suggest 3 similar in size and then 1 a little bit larger for the head.Perfect Ironsides for Caterpillar Craft

Step 3: Paint your pumpkins. I went with a green, but your caterpillar can be whatever color your heart desires. I think purple would be a awesome – if you make a purple one, please share!

Painting Ironsides

Step 4: Now decorate! This can be polka-dots, antennas, eyes, mouth, whatever makes your pumpkin caterpillar happy!

IMG_3197

Step 5: Share with me 🙂 Tweet (@yellowdogpinkpi), or tag me on instagram (@yellowdogpinkpig)

I love painting pumpkins because they last so much longer than if you carve them. The caterpillar is also fun to move around and make other shapes! The kido’s love playing with them!

Simple Fall Decorations & GIVEAWAY!

Happy Fall Y’all! It just got real pumpkin real fast up in my house! My in-laws own and operate a pumpkin patch, so we take pumpk-ing very serious!

While pumpkin-ing my house, I really stride to avoid jack-o-lanterns, so I can leave the decorations up for Thanksgiving. However, the little jack-o-lanterns are so adorable.

My go-to shop is my local TJ Maxx & Homegoods. They always have great deals and the stock changes frequently, so I’m able to go a few times each season to stock up!

Wedding Wednesday – Flowers

How was everyones week? It’s dropped about 20 degrees since last Wednesday. It’s official, Fall is here! If you like it or not, it’s about to be pumpkin EVERYTHING – well, that’s if it’s not already happening. Check back this week, because I’m about to PUMPKIN my whole house (and kid 😛 )!

IMG_3128

I’m at it again, Wedding Wednesday. I link up with Macy from To Travel and Beyond and Nikki from Make Up Her for Wedding Wednesday. Each Wednesday I share small details from our big day. Don’t forget to visit my other Wedding Wednesday posts.

If there was ever a time you were thinking I was crazy, I’m about to confirm that thought.

IMG_3140

Ben and I grew our own flowers for our wedding.

IMG_3144

Yup, that happened. When you marry into a farming family why the heck not?! Plus, it makes for a good story!

IMG_1777

The biggest advice for growing your own flowers is to have a back up plan! Due to the weather, we did get the seeds in a little late. We had a lot of our sunflowers pop, but not all. This meant we needed to supplement our crop with others. Luckily, Ben had a few connections at a farmers market.

DSC_6617

I topped off this crazy dream with arranging the bouquets ourselves. What do you think about that? Would you consider this or did it yourself? What was the craziest thing you did for your wedding?

How to Return to Work After Having a Baby

So you’ve had a baby and now it’s time to head back to work. Let’s be honest, it sucks. You’re most likely sleep deprived, stressed, and anxious about leaving your little one. Here is my suggestions to making a smooth transition back to work.

BABY1. If you have someone to help, work out the feeding schedule with them. This will allow for you both to get a long stretch of sleep to best rest for the upcoming day. My hubby typically does the last night feeding, which normally happens between 8 – 10 pm. This means I get to bed around 8 pm and then will take the next feeding, which for our little one is around 3 am. This way we both get a good 6 hour period of sleeping. It is also important to consider who can function better with less sleep.

IMG_0896

2. Getting out the door, getting ready, and getting to the sitter then to work all takes extra time and adds stress. This means prepping as much as possible the night before it key! I’ve switched to showering at night and laying out my clothes. Let’s be honest, getting dressed is still tough. Can you say #postpartumbodprobs?

IMG_0840

3. On maternity leave you spend day and night with your little one, and about to embark on 8 hour stretches without them. This is a big difference, plus that means someone else is watching them. To cut down on the anxiety, you will want to find someone you completely trust and feel comfortable taking care of your baby. It’s also a plus if your sitter sends pictures and updates while you’re at work.

IMG_0481

4. My other suggestion is to stretch out your leave. I’m lucky to have banked paid time off. I will be working for the next 6 weeks at a part-time status. Personally, this is helping with getting the little one on a new schedule. During leave, the world revolves around the little one, and now it’s shifting to the clock and coordinating schedules of everyone else. I also think this is a great way to transition a sitter into the addition of another child.

How much time did you take off/ plan to take off for your baby? Any suggestions you have?

Wedding Wednesday – Guest Bags

Let’s get readyyyyyyyy tooooooo….. Wedding Wednesday!!

Wedding Wednesday is getting crazy here at the Yellow Dog Pink Pig! What are you waiting for? Jump over there 😛

To Travel and Beyond

We were married in Geneva, New York, which meant that a lot of our college friends (from North Carolina) and my family (Maryland and Virginia) were coming from out of town. Thanks to my mom, she encouraged me to create hotel bags for our guest.

These bags included a small water bottle, Advil, snacks, directions to the venue, door hanger, and invitation to the Welcome Party! Instead of having a traditional rehearsal dinner, we opted for a Welcome Party. We invited all out of town guest and close friends to celebrate the night before. I know we enjoyed the welcome party and I think the out of town guest enjoyed the party.Wedding Welcome Party - Hotel BagI loved the door hangers! I loved seeing these hanging on the doors when I went to bed that night.Wedding Hotel Door Hanger

At the time, I didn’t know I’d be blogging about this, so I’m lacking in the picture game. I hope to see you next Wednesday!

Wedding Wednesday – Print at Home Invitations

It’s been a week since our last Wedding Wednesday already? This week is flying by and it makes me a little sad, as this is my last week on full time maternity leave. Next week I start back at work for 6 weeks part-time. Check back and I’ll be sharing my maternity leave experience.

To Travel and Beyond

Hopefully you know the drill, each Wednesday, I link up with Macy from To Travel and Beyond and Meg from Borrowed Heaven for Wedding Wednesday to share small details from our big day each Wednesday. If you’re new, please check out our pint glass favors, non-traditional dessert, special anniversary tradition, innovative guest book, and our chalk board program! What are you waiting for? Jump over there 😛

This week I’ll be sharing our invitations! My hubby thought it would be a good idea to create and print our own!IMG_1665

This was a lot more work than I was expecting. Ben designed our invitation, RSVP, and accommodations card. He did an amazing job. I love, love, love them. It even inspired us to have a two seater bike at the wedding.

1172372_10151546624778204_1094358491_o

This took awhile to get printed because we printed at home. It took awhile to print the first side and then second side (correctly). We invited over 200 people, so I spent a lot of time near the printer. So the big question: Would I print them again? Hmm…

IMG_1678

I don’t think I’d do it again. Between the cost of paper, ink, and the time it took to get these done, I’d suggest getting yours ordered. This would save stress and the hassle. Have you printed your own invitations? Did you have the same experience?

Wedding Wednesday No Program – No Problem

Is it Wednesday again? I’m really enjoying Wedding Wednesday. I love being able to share this special day again.

DSC_0853

In case you’re new, what is Wedding Wednesday? Each Wednesday, I link up with Macy from To Travel and Beyond and Meg from Borrowed Heaven for Wedding Wednesday to share small details from our big day each Wednesday. I’ve already shared our guest favors, cookie bar, anniversary tradition, and guest book, so be sure to view these post too!

To Travel and Beyond

So let’s get started 🙂 While planning our wedding, we were very cautious of the budget and let me say, the budget was pretty tight. We both agreed, we didn’t want to cut anyone from the guess list or the open bar 🙂 We saved money in a few ways, but one in particular was using chalkboards for our programs. I did my research and by research I mean stalked Pinterest.  I actually pinned all wedding inspiration to a secret board. I used a secret board so it could be a day of surprises for my guest. (I love secret boards – they are so convenient when planning for an event or gift!)

Here’s my pin-spiration:

Pin-Aspiration from Eco-Love

Pin-spiration from Eco-Love

Doesn’t seem to hard, right? Plus, Ben already had a huge chalkboard I could use for the event, which helped us save more! I measured my space and mapped it all out. I used chalk markers. Chalk markers are a gift from God! You can erase so easily! I kept q-tips and a wet rag near. I printed the fonts I liked from Microsoft Word and copied them to tracing paper. I think it turned out great! Check out the project below.

DSC_6778

13573_10151543523883204_613714607_n

I also included a few small sandwich boards. The first was a welcome sign – this let me know they were in the right spot. One of my best friends did this project (Thanks Bay!) The other board gave a timeline for guess and was completed by my Mother-In-Law (Thanks Mel!)

IMG_1690

IMG_0440

If you’re thinking about this – you can totally do it! Plus, it was a fun place for your guest to take pictures. I wish there was a picture of the entrance the day of, but looks like it was overlooked 😦

To make the chalk board just grab some plywood and chalkboard paint. They even have chalk board paint in different colors! Imagine, that would be so fun!

IMG_1724

Have you completed a similar project? Let me know! I’d love to hear about it 🙂
